| Here we are at the pool. My name is Bob Campbell. I am a retired professional engineer with many years experience in the design, operation and construction of production facilities in the oil and gas industry in Canada, Libya, and Saudi Arabia. Also with the benefit of artistic and architectural abilities, I designed the house and supervised every step of construction on a daily basis for two years. The task was complicated by the need to blast out granite rock and prepare the hole to receive the pool, without destroying a natural granite terrace. This meant the initial concrete work had to be completed on the pool, before work on the house could begin. The pool is designed as a double reinforced free standing structure with every footing on solid granite, with various added design features to ensure trouble free operation indefinitely. We enjoy the house and are reluctant to move. It is in a unique location close to Naiharn Beach, a national park on the southwest coast of Phuket Island. (Titled land in the immediate area is scarce and expensive.) It is separated from the tourist beaches by a range of high hills, so the whole area is quiet. Phuket, with an international airport, is located nearly 900 kilometers south of Bangkok, in a truly spectacular area of Thailand. There are so many beauty spots to visit, in addition to Phuket itself. While we love the house and the area, circumstances require us to move. |
